Looking for a scenic drive along the beautiful Miramichi River? Look no further than the Dungarvon and Doaktown ATV Club trails for a one-day trip and two-night accommodation on the Miramichi River Quad Trail. You can begin your adventure by unloading your ATV at the Dungarvon trail head that begins at the Williamstown Esso on Route 8. From there you will follow a well-marked trail until you reach Trail 10 on the rail bed that will take you to Quarryville. If the weather permits, you will no doubt see several enthusiasts fishing salmon in the beautiful Miramichi River. It is also not uncommon to see tubers on the river from one of the two tubing companies.
From there, you will get to Renous where you will cross a decommissioned train bridge, where great photo ops are open to you. As you continue your route, your next location will be the Village of Blackville. Feeling hungry or need fuel? You are in luck! The village has three restaurants and two gas stations to meet your needs. From Blackville you have two options. You can take the back trails through Dungarvon which offers three great destinations: the Bartholomew falls, the Chimney and the Whooper Springs (home of the Dungarvon Whooper)! Your other option is to continue to follow the rail bed along the river which will take you through the woods and into the Village of Doaktown.
In Doaktown, there are several options for food, gas and there is a Tim Horton’s location. While in Doaktown you can also check out the Miramichi Salmon Museum. Continuing on the trail to Boiestown, you can stay on the rail bed by the river or you can take a detour and follow the trail up through the Nelson Hollow covered bridge which also leads to the Priceville foot bridge. This is a great stop to take a dip, relax for few minutes on the beach or walk across the foot bridge. From there, you continue your journey along the riverbank to Boiestown where you will find something to eat and get fuel. You can also stop and check out the Woodsmen’s Museum! From Boiestown you can continue to follow the rail bed towards Fredericton if you wish and ride the Nashwaak Valley ATV Club’s quad trails.
Along the route from Miramichi to Boiestown, a number of outfitters offer great accommodations. They include Wilson’s Sporting Camps, The Ledges Inn, Pond’s Resort, Storeytown Cottages, Taylor’s Motel and O’Donnell’s Cottages.
For anyone looking to travel the area, the President of the Doaktown ATV Club, Paul Colford, has a wealth of knowledge about the area and is always willing to jump on his wheeler and take people on tours and discover new experiences.
