Adventure South Trail - Route 107

This is a 97km loop south of Route 107. Expect to take 8 to 10 hours to complete. Note that you may encounter obstacles like washouts, downed trees and beaver dams - be prepared to take alternate routes. Please check quadnb.ca for current known trail conditions.

  1. Craig Rest Area/Barker Dam/Gorbie Gulch. Named after one of the founding members of Skedaddle Ridge Trails People (SRTP) Lorne Craig, this is a great stop along the Nashwaak river. At the site is a piece of a gate from the old Barker Dam. Follow a 300m trail through the woods to visit the site of the old dam. Also, you are in the "Gorbie Gulch" area, if you’re lucky a Gorbie (Canada Jay) may come eat a snack from your hand.
  2. Chimney Rock. This geological formation made by volcanic activity and glacial movement thousands of years ago left a large square column of granite that looks like a chimney standing in a large rift in the earth.
  3. Prosser Rest Area/Balancing Rock. The Prosser Rest Area is named after founding members Gerald and Rosalie Prosser. Another geological formation made by glacial movement left a large boulder perched atop three smaller rocks.
  4. Long Lake. A short walk down the bank you can take a moment of tranquility at Long Lake. Keep your eye out for ducks and loons. OPTIONAL FOR ADVANCE RIDERS ONLY. From here you can turn on trail 5148. This trail features washouts, large rocks, and mud holes. About halfway through is the Hemphill Rest Area by the Little Pokiok stream.
  5. Culberson Rest Area. A rest area named after a founding member Llyod Culberson.
  6. Wasson Rest Area/Pinnacle Lookout. The Wasson Rest Area named after founding member George (Jr.) features one of our best lookouts, the Pinnacle. You can see for hundreds of kilometers in many directions, on a clear day you can see the peak of Mt. Katahdin in the State of Maine.
  7. Thorne Grave site. Stop for a moment and remember the pioneer families that settled and endured hardship in this area. These families were often buried on the farms that they settled on. This is one of the grave sites that SRTP continues to maintain.
  8. Mackenzie Rest Area/McBrine Bridge. Named after founding members Wendell and Villa Mackenzie, you are near the McBrine Bridge named after founding member Francis McBrine. This little covered bridge crosses the South Branch Southwest Miramichi River.
  9. Kent Rest Area. Named after founding member, Allison Kent.
